Friends Seminary is a community that is committed to the practice of taking care. Even in this trying time when the COVID-19 virus has forced us into isolation and social distancing, we can still continue to practice empathy and engagement. A small gesture in everyday life, like performing a random act of kindness for a family member or a close neighbor, helps us as much as those we assist. These acts help us not only de-stress and relieve anxiety, but they also remind us of our interconnectedness. With this in mind, the Center for Peace, Equity and Justice at Friends Seminary wants to help our school community find ways to express its commitment to the Quaker value of community and the practice of service. Through the School’s website page, Community Taking Care, we will offer service opportunities to channel housebound energy into doing good, as well as family activities that will strengthen our empathy muscles. While the School is busy getting distance learning underway, we also want to introduce the concept of distance caring! In the weeks ahead, we will regularly share new updates on this site, so check back from time to time.
